Description
The strength and technical ability he has acquired from strict adherence to traditional training methods has made Morio Higaonna, 10th Dan Hanshi, one of the most respected karate masters of his generation. He, in turn, insists that his students follow the same time-honoured system that consists of mastering the basic techniques, kata, and body conditioning through continuous training. As he explains in his opening lecture, there is no quick way to proficiency, just the right way.
Higaonna Sensei’s lecture is followed by demonstrations of the kata and their applications, during which extensive use is made of slow motion and multiple camera angles to reveal even the most subtle details of technique. The kata Gekisai Dai Ichi, Gekisai Dai Ni, Seiyunchin, Shisochin, and Kururunfa are demonstrated by the author himself at different speeds, and from different standpoints. He follows this by showing the most common applications with a partner including the vital point striking, locking, and throwing techniques that make Goju Ryu so effective at close quarters.
