Chojun Miyagi Sensei stated, “Hojo undo are practiced with the aim of perfecting the kata.” In the same lecture, given in Osaka on 28 Jan. 1936, he said, “kata is an exercise for the whole body, while the individual movements are performed with the objective of self-defense.” This second volume demonstrates in great detail the supplementary exercises, or Hojo Undo, and the basic kata Gekki Sai Dai Ichi, Gekki Sai Dai Ni, and Saifa. Following Miyagi Sensei’s teaching method, the individual movements are explained fully, as is their role in the complete version of the kata
