Born on Yonaguni, one of the southernmost of the Okinawan Islands, Masakazu Kuramoto graduated from high school in Nagasaki on the Japanese mainland, then attended Meiji University, one of the most prestigious in Japan. It was during his college years that he joined the Yoyogi Dojo of Morio Higaonna Sensei and began his study of Goju Ryu karate.
After graduation, he worked for a company in Japan for a few years, before returning to Okinawa at the age of thirty to become the personal assistant to the Governor of Okinawa, Junji Nishime, until around 2000. He is currently an advisor to the Okinawan Prefectural Government’s Karate Promotion Division.
Kuramoto Sensei is one of the three senior instructors at the Higaonna Dojo in Naha, Okinawa, and his personal training consist of six hours per day, seven days per week. He travels extensively as the representative of the Higaonna Dojo teaching Goju Ryu karate in South America, Europe, and Australasia.

These Kuramoto Spring Seminars specifically focus on Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate, a traditional style known for its effectiveness and rich history.

Kuramoto Spring Training Dojo Etiquette…
…is formal but relaxed rather than militaristic. We are polite but do not shout at each other. Uniforms are usually white without too much decoration (style insignia and name are fine), and you wear the belt of your choice. Please do not walk in front of teachers because it’s rude, and don’t sit in the dojo in a way that exposes the soles of your feet to others. If you need to remove your jacket to perform sanchin, please do not throw it on top of your bag. Rather, fold it neatly and place it with your other belongings.
