The Meijin Tropical uniform is our best-selling product in many areas of the US and overseas, especially in the summer and in locations that enjoy a sub-tropical climate. The design results from 20 years of research and development, its most outstanding feature being a remarkable fine woven 100% cotton canvas that weighs in at 10 ounces.
It looks great, it has masses of SNAP, and it is much easier to launder than heavier uniforms.

The washing instructions we recommend for 100% high-quality cotton fabrics is to use cold water and then hang dry. This will prevent excessive shrinkage and optimise the life of the garment. For Meijin Dojo Brand and Meijin Tropical this is probably the best course of action.
However, with the heavy cotton canvas fabrics we use in Meijin Premier (black) and PRO uniforms, this treatment can cause a natural stiffness, depending on the hardness or otherwise of the water in your area, until the garment has been washed numerous times
If you want a softer finish, try washing in tepid water (never hot) then drying on the gentlest cycle (low temperature) in your dryer.

When the textile mill first showed us the 10-ounce cotton canvas they had just developed, we knew we had to use it for the Meijin Tropical.
Before the advent of computer-driven looms, it was almost impossible to weave canvas to this quality because the level of consistency and accuracy required was practically impossible to achieve.
This is particularly true with the large quantities of fabric that we produce to manufacture our uniforms, and the level of quality control that we need to maintain.
The latest Japanese looms coupled with advanced computer technology can significantly improve the fabric quality if the weaving formulas are carefully designed, and thoroughly tested.
“Tropical” canvas is really finely woven cotton canvas but strong and “snappy,” and does not cling when wet.
It also washes easily and dries quickly, particularly important for the members who travel with us to Okinawa for training where the heat and humidity can be a real challenge!
The Meijin Tropical Plus Uniform is a very substantial upgrade from our original Tropical uniform.
