Description
It is interesting to note that it was on the island of Onoyama that the wind blowing the tall pine trees that caused their branches to form wave like shapes as they moved that inspired Gichin Funakoshi to choose “Shoto” for his pen name. Onoyama is now linked to the mainland by reclaimed land and a causeway across which karate students attending the regular CFA seminars in October cross from Tsubogawa monorail station to the dojo of the Okinawa Prefectural Budokan.
